Maintaining academic excellence requires more than classwork.

Lisa Nelson wrote laws giving school districts flexibility, so she recognizes that our educators know our students best.

Lisa understands that our students need to feel academically and emotionally supported to be successful.  

Lisa spent several years as the Education Policy Advisor for our State Senate, where she wrote laws improving curriculum and strengthening educational expectations, such as the requirements to have Civics and Financial Literacy to graduate high school.

Through her work at the Senate, Lisa also heard from students who were struggling because of stress. Whether it was related to school or things at home, students often just needed someone to hear them. While our teachers provide academic support, we should remember that professionals who provide emotional support are just as important.
